Learn About RESTORE Lab

The REhabilitation STrategies for community living Outcomes REsearch (RESTORE) Lab aims to enhance community living outcomes for people living with the effects of stroke and various disabilities. The lab develops, rigorously tests, and engages in technology transfer of mobile apps and technology-enhanced interventions and assessments. The apps, interventions, and assessments have one common thread: providing tools to healthcare practitioners and people with disabilities to live in the community as they desire.

Suzanne Burns, PhD, OTR/L is the Director of the RESTORE Lab and collaborates with researchers, healthcare practitioners, and people with disabilities and their support persons to create new technologies and get the technologies in the hands of people who need them the most.

The RESTORE Lab Approaches Research in Two Ways

Innovative Technology Development

We collaboratively develop mobile applications to support community living in people with disabilities. The RESTORE lab engages in user experience testing and accessibility testing to ensure that our mobile apps meet the wants and needs of targeted end users.

Community Engaged Research

Our research is deeply rooted in community engagement, allowing us to gather valuable insights from those living with disabilities. Collaborating directly with potential end-users allows us to tailor our interventions to meet their specific wants and needs.
